Successful applicants will possess a thorough understanding of both domestic and international patent prosecution and litigation laws and procedures, be adept at navigating the PTO website, and be able to handle confidential material in a professional manner while abiding by ethical and legal guidelines.

Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria 

  • We are now hiring a prosecution paralegal to work in our Irvine office. This is an office-based position.
  • A high school degree and at least five years of paralegal experience in patent prosecution are prerequisites for this role.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit PCT and U.S. patent applications; reply to office actions; and handle other USPTO and foreign patent correspondence.
  • Organize PCT and national stage filings, reporting, and continued prosecution with international partners.
  • Create and submit official documents.
  • Provide foreign associates with timely information on how to pay foreign annuities, issue fees, maintenance costs, and registration fees.
  • Conduct post-allowance due diligence to ensure the correct awarding of patents.
  • Monitor and monitor both domestic and international patent filing dates.
  • Prepare drafts of other applications and office action response shells for legal review.
  • Examine and amend claims as needed at the request of overseas associates and attorneys.
  • Write letters to clients and overseas associates on deadlines, filings, and procedural updates.
  • Notify clients and attorneys of USPTO and foreign correspondence as soon as possible. If necessary, contact the USPTO for fact-finding and procedural information.
  • Create and manage attorney dockets to ensure timely completion of deadlines.
  • To guarantee accuracy and consistency, keep customer files (both electronic and physical) up to date and organized.
  • Oversee client file intake and transfer, making sure they are accurate and well-organized.
  • To help lawyers with client development and matter management, conduct research and produce reports.
  • Mentor and advise other employees.
  • As allocated, carry out additional tasks.
