The engineering field known as Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) builds and manages large-scale, widely dispersed, fault-tolerant systems by fusing software and systems engineering. While continuously monitoring capacity and performance, SRE makes sure that Google’s services—both our internally vital and outwardly visible systems—have uptime and dependability suitable for users’ needs and a rapid rate of improvement.

In addition, SRE is a way of thinking and a collection of technical techniques for improving production systems; we develop our own innovative engineering solutions to operational issues. Building infrastructure, automating tasks, and enhancing current systems take up a large portion of our software development.

Since SREs are in charge of the overall relationship between our systems, we employ a variety of methods and instruments to address a wide range of issues. Iterative improvement, which is essential for both product quality and engaging and dynamic daily work, is influenced by practices like cutting down on operational work time, conducting blameless postmortems, and proactively identifying possible outages.

Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria 

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar discipline, or comparable real-world experience.
• Five years of experience using one or more programming languages to develop software.
• Three years of expertise in large-scale distributed system design, analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Two years of project management and technical leadership expertise.
• A master’s degree in engineering or computer science.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Participate in and enhance the whole service lifecycle, from conception and design to implementation, operation, and improvement.
• Before going live, support services are provided through tasks including capacity planning, software platform and framework development, system design advice, and launch reviews.
• After a service goes live, keep an eye on its availability, latency, and general system health.
• Develop systems by advocating for modifications that increase dependability and speed, then scale them sustainably using tools like automation.
• Practice blameless postmortems and sustainable incident response.
